What we believe and teach: The submission to the governing authorities

holy-bibleThere is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore, for the Lord’s sake, we must be subject to the governing authorities and keep the laws of the country where we live. Whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgement on themselves. We must, therefore, respect the governing authorities and be subject to them, no matter what political party they belong to or what kind of religion they profess. And we must also pray for all who are in authority, that God may save them, help them, keep them and bless them together with their families. And let us thank God for the good things done by the governing authorities.

We are called to disobey the governing authorities only when they command us to do something which is contrary to the Word of God. In this case we must say the same thing the apostles said before the Sanhedrin, which had commanded them not to teach in the name of Jesus, that is to say, ‘We ought to obey God rather than men’.
