What we believe and teach: The decrees which were determined by the apostles and elders at Jerusalem

holy-bibleAround the middle of the first century after Christ, the apostles and the elders met at Jerusalem to consider an important question, that is to say, they came together to decide whether the believing Gentiles had to be circumcised and to keep the law of Moses or not. They decided not to burden the Gentiles with anything beyond the following requirements: they had to abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled and from fornication. Therefore we who are Gentiles in Christ Jesus must keep those decrees determined by the apostles and the elders at Jerusalem. So we must abstain from fornication (that is, sexual intercourse with someone one is not married to); from the flesh of those animals which have been strangled; from those meats or things which the heathen offer to their idols, and from blood and any blood-based food.
